J-Lube as a size?
- Hi all. A marbler in Melbourne ran this past me recently. When he
was in America a few years back, he heard about and bought a product
called J-Lube (in powdered form) from a Veterinary supplier. It is
actually - are you sitting down? - an obstetric lubricant for
cattle. My friend told me that he has used this substance, which
works just fine for all marbling, including water colour. It
apparently does not go off as carragheenan does after a few days. I
am very sceptical, as I think everyone would know about it if it
worked really well. I have tried Vet. suppliers in Australia, but
they don't keep it. There is a liquid form of this substance, but it
is not strong enough for marbling. The powdered form is what works
Does anyone have any info on this, or where I could buy some to try?
The rate I was given was 1 tablespoon to 5 - 8 Litres of water (no,
this is not April Fools' day). The powder is put in a bucket and the
water added slowly, stirring by hand. It forms a disgusting sticky
ball at first, but as water is slowly added and stirred it mixes into
the right consistency and can be used virtually immediately. It
sounds like a dream come true.
I am waiting . . . . . Joan Ajala
- A quick search yielded this source. I question whether a dollar a
gallon for J-Lube size is going to beat carrageenan, though if it
lasts longer it may be worth it. Since J-Lube is 75% dextrose (a
sugar) I would expect it to spoil at room temperature. If you try
it, please let us know how it goes.
<<You can order it from a farm supply company called Nasco. The
company's becoming aware that their product is not just being used
for birthing calves these days, and are not yet sure how to react
officially to that, but the people are friendly and polite.

- Sorry to report that the Nasco phone numbers and addresses posted are for an
art supply catalog that does not sell J-Lube. Do you have another
address/phone for a farm supply Nasco?
- You need to go back into Yahoo, pull up the page that displays the groups you are listed with, click on this group listing, and there should be a spot on that page that will let you unlist.Jill----- Original Message -----From: Mike WhittingtonSent: Sunday, December 23, 2001 1:05 PMSubject: [Marbling] unsubcsribe

- --- Dear Terri, Thanks for the info about J-Lube. Diane Maurer says
the numbers about the firm Nasco are not correct, so I will wait
until this is sorted out before I telephone from Australia. I will
certainly let you know if the product works - but first I have to
find where I can buy it! I agree with you about the dextrose being
likely to break down quickly. However, I try everything possible, so
am undeterred so far. Best regards, Joan Ajala P.S. Please let me
have an update on contact numbers if you have them.
