Marbling: Ancient Art, Modern Art Form
June 13 & 14 | 9 - 4
Learn to create the amazing intricacies of the ancient art of marbling, and then use those techniques to experiment with a range of materials, colors, and papers to create your own unique designs. During this two day comprehensive workshop you will learn how to prepare paper for marbling; using acrylic paints, alum, carrageenan and gall you will learn classic designs such as The Peacock, Stone Marbling, and The Spanish Wave, among others. A supply list will be sent prior to class. At the end of two days you will have over 25 papers suitable for book arts, collage, or other related work.
Nancy Akerly is a Door County paper artist, working with centuries old marbling and bookbinding techniques to create original boxes and hand bound books and journals. She has taught classes and workshops throughout Door County, in Germany and Taiwan, incorporating the simple elegance of paper folding in her work.
Tuition: $172 (The price includes a catered lunch each day.)
Materials Fee: $55 payable to The Clearing at registration for carrageenan, acrylic marbling paint, alum, gall, Texoprint paper, marbling trays and broom straw brushes.
