- This is what Nedim Sönmez wrote on the topic in 'International Decorated Papers; Beyond the Sample Book'(excerpt):
Ogier Ghiselin de Busbecq was the Hapsburg ambassador to the Ottoman Empire between 1555 and 1562. Besides his diplomatic duties, Busbecq researched life in Turkey and described in his letters his experiences during the rule of Suleiman the Glorious.
In his letters, we can read also about the high esteem of paper in the Ottoman Empire. The outstanding observer Busbecq does not however mention Ebru. This is proof for me that Ebru first came to Istanbul after 1562.
