if you should happen to be in Frankfurt from 15th to 19th October,
consider a visit to the Frankfurt Book Fair. Basically, the fair is
about Big Business, but there is a high-class antiquarian fair
incoporated, and then there is the book arts section in hall 4.1,
centered around Book Art Square in row Q/booth 101 with its special
exhibitions and demonstrations. As Turkey is this year`s Guest of
Honour, the organizers of Book Art Square have invited Hikmet
Barutcugil to demonstrate his art, and there will be more Turkish book
arts shown not only on Book Arts Square but also on the special area
allotted to the Guest of Honour. Hikmet's new book on ebru, written by
commission of the Turkish Government, will be released then and there.
The exhibitors in the book arts section are fine international private
and small presses and the occasional binder and paper dealer. Very
good stuff and worth a visit.
Entrance fees are high (36 at the box office or 24 on the internet
at www.buchmesse.de) from 15th to 17th, and an identification as a
professional is required. 18th and 19th are open to the general public
at an entrance fee of 10. Be prepared for an enomours rush and tired
exhibitors if you opt for one of thse days.
If you`re there, come visit me in booth 126 in the same row!
