      Centro Hispano, 810 West Badger Road

      A fandango is a community celebration that is part performance, part jam session, and part poetry slam. Groups will participate in workshops offered by Sones  de México and then perform together. The celebration will include a dedication of the new murals named "Home Away from Home” (“Mi Casa es Su Casa”) and “Heroes of the Hispanic World” created under the direction of Sharon Kilfoy. The event is free and open to the public.

      Overture Center, Sones de México will Spread Traditional Music Across Madison

       

      Sones de México, Chicago ’s best-known traditional music ensemble, will engage in a number of community and educational activities culminating in their performance headlining International Festival. School events are not open to the public but media may request credentials by calling Robert Chappell at 608-258-4438.

      Panel Discussion on Traditional Mexican Music

      Members of Sones de México join Raquel González Paraíso, PhD Candidate, Ethnomusicology and Jorge Rodriguez, David Alvarado and other members of Son Mudanza, a Madison-based Mexican music group, to discuss traditional Mexican music. Presented in collaboration with UW Latin American, Caribbean & Iberian Studies Program.

      A fandango of activities including singing, percussion, dancing, storytelling, arts and crafts, and food!  Students and their families will participate in workshops and then gather to perform with Sones for the entire gathering.
