      Dear Friends, Neighbors, and Colleagues,

In the devastating aftermath of the earthquake which struck Haiti, President Barack Obama has pledged “unwavering” assistance of the United States to the people of Haiti.

This local appeal comes to support the Haitian student community of Howard University.  Mr. Bryan Smart, President of Howard University Student Association (HUSA) has reached out the D.C. Federation of Civic Association and the broader District community to assist in HUSA’s relief effort for Howard University’s Haitian students.  Bryan has indicated HUSA will collect, food, clothing, and funds for the families of Haitian students attending Howard University.

The Federation is reaching out to you for your support for these students who have experienced a great loss, personally and as a nation.  In the next few days HUSA will determine drop-off locations for food, clothing, and monetary donations.  Additional information will be provided as plans are developed.

On behalf of the Federation and HUSA, I ask you for your support and to remember the people of Haiti in your prayers.

      Robert
