Subject: Fwd: Zoning for residential facility at 1058, 1060-1062 Bladensburg Rd NEGood Evening Councilmember Thomas:I believe introducing emergency legislation to extend the 500 foot buffer to 600 feet is in order to stop this project from moving forward. See the Zoning Administrator' s assessment below. No one in ANC 5B10, 5B08, or ANC 5B wants this project in the community, underscoring an unanimous ANC 5B vote of 11-0 to oppose the project at the June 2009 meeting. The project is 540 feet from a Methadone clinic where clients routinely "get high'" and on the same block with open air drug trafficking and in the midst of five alcohol retailers. The overwhelming majority of us believe this project will jeopardize the safety of the vulnerable women in treatment, negatively affect our public safety and drain Fifth District police resources. Finally, this project is a community residential facility just like the Methadone clinic, which is 540 feet away; if the Methadone clinic was 500 feet away, this ill-conceived project would not be allowed by law to move forward. Extending the 500 foot buffer to 600 feet would effectively stop the project from moving forward.Sincerely,Kathy Henderson
