      Alice/Ms. Laskaris:

Below are the security measures now being employed by HESS construction at the Wheatley/Cole construction site. Please share this information with the various community groups and list serves in the area. I trust that these measures will make a difference. Let's talk in the next week or so to see if that is indeed the case.

      From Doug Dorner (HESS)-
Three (3) of Wheatley’s permanent metal halide floodlights have been energized in the alley. Two are on the gym which provide significant lighting in the picnic rec center table area where the activity is and add more lighting to the trailer area. The other one lights up the alley adjacent to the rec center. Four (4) more permanent alley lights will be turned on after we talk to the electrician which ought to provide quite a bit of light towards Cole.

We have had both written and spoken communication to the security officers to verify that the trailer area is being patrolled along with the entire Wheatley jobsite.

      Gentlemen,

I'm writing in the hope you can help the community surrounding Joseph Cole. In recent months we've had many teenagers spending alot of time, especially at night in the area of the construction trailers at the end of the Joseph Cole campus. They're loud and at the risk of making assumptions, most probably up to no good, having noticed crack bags on the ground at and near the site of last Friday's groundbreaking with the Mayor.

Minimally, I'd like to see if we could find a way to ensure the trailer area is secure and won't allow people to lurk in and around them. Optimally we would like to find a way to brightly light up that area of the park to discourage them hanging out there, to allow police to see them more easily, etc. We're pushing to get highly visible signage from DPR that states the park area closes at 9pm so MPD can then provide enforcement also. I've brought this up to DPR as well.
I'm certain that all of us working together can make this happen and help us ensure this summer is a safer one in this neighborhood.

Thank you in advance for your help and support

      Best Regards,
