      Greater Washington Fashion Chamber of Commerce Launches

      DC Local Fashion Awareness Month in May

      DC Officials Scheduled for Press Conference

       

      Washington, DC (May 5, 2009) - The Greater Washington Fashion Chamber of Commerce (GWFCC) is pleased to announce that it will launch the first-ever DC Local Fashion Awareness Month to support the local fashion industry throughout the Washington , DC metropolitan area. The purpose of fashion awareness month is to focus attention and generate support for all aspects of the local fashion industry.  “In countless ways, Washington, DC is an ideal location for a vibrant and thriving fashion economy, and we are thankful that our city officials are supporting the local fashion industry which, will create job opportunities and business development” states Christine Brooks-Cropper, president of GWFCC.

       

      This initiative includes various events throughout the month of May that aim to unite and educate the local fashion industry, and encourage the continued growth of a fashion-driven economy in Washington , DC .  Events will be hosted by GWFCC and are supported by the DC Deputy Mayor for Economic Development, DC City Council, DC Department of Small and Local Business Development, H Street MainStreet, and Hotel Helix- a Kimpton Hotel.

      GWFCC Fashion Canvassing Project

      Job Opportunities and Business Development Workshops

      11am-5pm

      This event will connect fashion entrepreneurs to the growing DC Fashion industry and provide

      GWFCC Fashion Census Focus Groups

      11am-2pm or 6pm-9pm

      The purpose of the focus groups is to obtain feedback and suggestions regarding GWFCC’s Comprehensive Fashion Action Plan.  There are two focus group sessions being offered.

      Wednesday, May 20th:

      Fashionably Business at Hotel Helix. 

      Come and learn about business "In Style".  Join us as we mix, mingle and learn about how to start a fashion business in DC. The evening will start off with networking, and proceed into brief presentations by local experts, ending with additional networking in the Hotel Helix Lounge.  Presenters Include: Natalie Cofield , Washington DC Economic Partnership, and Oriana Khatso, Owner, Terra Boutique.   Register at www.gwfcc.org
