      Ms. Thompson,

      As you are aware the District of Columbia is vulnerable to disasters of various types – flooding, tornados, ice & snowstorms, power outages and terrorist attacks.   In order to assure that you and your family are as prepared as possible for these possible events, the Homeland Security Emergency Management Agency (HSEMA) has a training session in your neighborhood.   A total of fourteen two hour sessions are scheduled with upcoming session in Ward 5.  Each meeting includes a wealth of information from district agencies, free items to be used in a disaster and the chance to participate in a simulation of a possible event, in order to learn what steps you and your family can take to prepare for a disaster, discuss and plan with your neighbors and community leaders to get ready and find out about the best routes to use if an evacuation is necessary.

      The next scheduled is;

      §         Saturday, April 25th at 9:30 a.m. at the Woodridge Neighborhood Library

      These sessions are free to all local residents, neighborhood leaders and representatives of community and civic organizations.   Refreshments and certificate of completion will be provided.  Come out and meet your neighbors.

      Event details can be found online at www.dccommunitypreparedness.org <http://www.dccommunitypreparedness.org/> .

      You can RSVP for the event online at www.dccommunitypreparedness.org <http://www.dccommunitypreparedness.org/>  or by calling me at (202) 338-7158 x 212.

      I have also attached a flyer and pamphlet with detailed information and ask that you share these materials with anyone you feel would be interested in attending. Any support and/or direction that you gave our outreach efforts in Ward 5 is appreciated.

      Thank you in advance.
