      Survivors and Advocates for Empowerment (SAFE, Inc.) is seeking
      interested individuals to work as on-call advocates for victims of
      domestic violence. This is a great opportunity to help others while
      learning about the dynamics of domestic violence, the justice system,
      and remedies that contribute to ending violence in family and dating
      relationships. This program works in the 5th, 6th and 7th police
      districts.

      Job Responsibilities:
      Advocates provide direct services to domestic violence victims through
      crisis management and safety planning. Advocates serve as a direct
      link to community resources to assist victims in maintaining their
      safety and fulfilling immediate social service needs.
      Specific duties include:
      - Provide crisis intervention and safety planning
      - Provide emotional support and information about the judicial process
      - Provide information on and referrals to social service programs
      - Provide assistance with emergency housing needs
      - Provide information and assistance in securing emergency food and
      transportation services
      - Provide assistance in applying for Crime Victims Compensation
      Skills

      Time Commitment:
      Volunteers will work in pairs in 12 hours shifts (6pm-6am M-F, 6am-6pm
      and 6pm-6am on Saturdays and Sundays) a minimum of 2 times per month.
      Candidates should also be willing to make a 6 month commitment to the
      program.

      Requirements:
      Car and valid driver's license
      Attendance at all training sessions
      Police Ride Along
      Background check

      2/9/08 9am-5pm

      All trainings take place at the DC Superior Court.

      Ideal candidates will have knowledge and understanding of issues
      pertaining to violence against women, knowledge of the legal system,
      excellent interpersonal skills, and possess the ability to function in
      a high stress environment. Experience in crisis intervention,
      providing support and referral services a plus, but not required.
