Traffic Fatality: 1100 Block of Kenilworth Avenue, NE

(Washington, DC)-Detectives from the Metropolitan Police Department’s Major Crash Unit are investigating a traffic fatality which occurred in the 1100 block of Kenilworth Avenue, NE.

On Thursday, May 2, 2013 at approximately 11:45 pm a 2006 Honda Accord was travelling northbound on Interstate 295. The driver was operating the vehicle at a high rate of speed within the left lane of travel. While continuing northbound on Interstate 295, the driver lost control of the vehicle, crossed over two adjacent lanes and mounted the west curb and grassy median. The vehicle subsequently re-entered the roadway, rolled and collided with two tour buses that were legally parked in the 1100 block of Kenilworth Avenue, NE.

The driver, 22-year-old Felicia Joyce Hargrove of Columbia, Maryland, suffered massive blunt force trauma to the head. She displayed no signs consistent with life and was transported to the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner, where she was pronounced dead.  An adult male passenger sustained minor injuries and was treated and released from a local hospital.

This case is currently under investigation.
