      Good Afternoon Jon,

This is in fact the second robbery of this establishment in the last 2 weeks.  Although the crimes appear to be committed by different individuals, the trend still concerns us.

There has not been a marked increase in robberies near New Jersey NW for this calendar year and we would like to attribute that to the focused uniform presence you have observed.

Thank you for taking the time to inquire as to how you and others can help.  Please be vigilant as to your surroundings and report any suspicious individuals immediately.  As a resident of this neighborhood, you are in the best position to advise us when something looks out of the ordinary.

We will certainly continue our efforts to abate this area of these violent crime issues.  In the interim, please feel free to contact me if you have any other concerns or questions.

      Thank You

      MPD 5D and 3D,

This is the second or third robbery of the new Bates Market in perhaps less than a month.  Can you confirm that all of them have been armed robberies?  This new store is of great service to the Shaw neighborhood.  Have there been similar robberies on either side of NJ Ave NW ?  This could split the crime between 5D and 3D.  Only two of the crimes are listed below.  One is from today.

There has been a notable increased MPD presence at the corner of 3rd and P Streets NW, and thank you for that.  This has even perhaps muted the drug sales along the 1400 block of 3rd St NW and fights at Dunbar HS.

While armed robbers are dangerous, what can residents do?  I don't want to see this store leave, or get remodeled to look like a prison.  Thanks, Jon
