Thanks Brian and Don. I'll pass along your sentiments to the officer and his family.

I spoke with both him and his wife this afternoon, and the officer is in good spirits and recovering well.

Commander, Don and I want to join Jason in wishing the officer brutally assaulted in this incident all good wishes for a speedy recovery-- as well as our profound thanks for his bravery and service to 5D and our city.

Perhaps no situation is fraught with greater personal danger, explosive emotional responses and unpredictable outcomes than when police have to respond to a complaint of domestic violence.

Whether its our MPD Special Liason Division officers or our MPD district officers, everyone should know and appreciate the risk these officers take, and the potential dangers and stress they can encounter in doing so.

      Thank you, one and all.

At about 6:45 this morning, Friday, November 2, police were called to a home in the 3500 block of 17th St., NE , for a possible assault.  When officers arrived, one of our 5D officers was attacked by a suspect with a knife.  The officer was assaulted, and in defending himself shot the suspect, who died at the scene.

The officer received several stab wounds.  He has been released from the hospital and is doing well.

Thanks for the thoughts and prayers that have arrived at 5D this morning.

      Andy Solberg
      Commander, 5D
