Just a thought, this MPD5 listserv might be of interest. I've had better response from this than 911.

The house was being renovated when I moved into the block about a year ago, but a few months ago construction stopped and the house has been vacant and closed up since then. At some point, the city put a "no dumping" sign in front of the house.

I called 911 and reported it as suspicious activity. I also called the number on the no dumping sign in case that agency has some authority over the house, and spoke to the receptionist there who said she'd pass the information on. When I came home 12 hours later, the front door of the house was still open. I shut the front door myself, and in so doing, could see that the front door had been forced open and the door jamb broken. The house appears empty inside. I called 911 again (around 8:30pm) and asked that they secure the house and also interview me. About 30 min later, I got a message on my cell phone that the police had come to my house but that I had not answered the door. (I was on the first floor and heard no doorbell ringing during that time.) I called 911 back again and re-reported the whole situation, and told them I was home and had been waiting for the police to come. I have heard nothing from the police since.
