Invite to OSSE Presentation at Ward 5 Council on Education Meeting
- The Office of the State Superintendent of Education (OSSE) would like to extend a special invitation to our upcoming presentation at the January Ward 5 Council of Education Meeting. Throughout the month of January, OSSE will visit and host a series of Community Meetings to discuss a flexibility request, invited by the U.S. Department of Education, under the Elementary and Secondary Education Act (No Child Left Behind).
The agency's waiver application is critical because in 2011, only 25 of 187 schools assessed under DC CAS made student proficiency targets in reading and math under the ESEA. Without the submission of a flexibility application to the US Department of Education, only 8 schools are projected to make annual proficiency targets in 2012. The District of Columbia has the opportunity to request flexibility in implementing certain ESEA requirements, both to more accurately rate schools and to outline a comprehensive plan for targeting rewards and support to schools based on their ratings. During the meeting, OSSE staff will provide information on the Elementary and Secondary Education Act and present information on flexibility requirements.
Come Out and Learn How OSSE's application will:
-Change the District of Columbia's School Accountability System
-Redefine measurements of school success
-Impact how OSSE resources and support are targeted to local schools
The Ward 5 Presentation will happen at:
