On Monday, October 24, 2011, ABRA held a public hearing pertaining to Full Yum’s application for a Type A liquor license (full service liquor store) at 1501 N. Capitol St. NE. The Bates Area Civic Association, Hanover Civic Association, Eckington Civic Association, 5C ANC, and individual neighbors had filed protests.
During the hearing, Kyle Thomas represented the individual protests, Margaret Steven represented BACA as an elected officer, and Commissioner Thomas represented the ANC. BACA residents Annetta Nichols and Sandy Warren attended the hearing as well.
The BACA and individual protests were upheld. The Hanover and Eckington Civic Association protests were not accepted as those organizations were not represented. The ANC resolution is pending ANC Chair Ronnie Edwards appointing Commissioner Thomas as the ANC Representative (yes technicality). Full Yum’s application was dismissed on a technicality as well. A representative for Full Yum did not attend the meeting. Full Yum will have ten days to appeal the dismissal.
Thank you Kyle Thomas who lead the community petitions, Commissioner Thomas for representing us every step of the way, and Margaret Steven for representing the Bates Area Civic Association. Thank you to long time residents and activist, Ms. Annetta Nichols and Sandy Warren . Our community is grateful for your dedication.
