Arrests Made in Three Homicide Cases
(Washington, DC) – The Metropolitan Police Department announced that six arrests were made yesterday in three separate homicide cases. In one of the cases an arrest was made less than a week after the crime.
“These arrests demonstrate our commitment to rapidly close homicides,” said Police Chief Cathy L. Lanier. “These case closures send a clear message to criminals. You’re not going to get away with murder in this city.”
On Thursday, November 5, 2009, four people were arrested in the 2008 murder of 25-year-old Michael Henry who was fatally shot in the 3400 block of 22nd Street, NE. Another suspect has been arrested in the homicide of 19-year-old Ashton Hunter, who was fatally shot on Saturday, October 31, 2009 in the 300 block of 37th Street, SE. Additionally, a suspect has been arrested in connection with the homicide of 30-year-old George Earl Wakefield who was fatally stabbed on October 17, 2009 in the 1100 block of 21st Place, NE.
In the homicide case of Michael Henry, at approximately 3 a.m. on Saturday, August 30, 2008, officers from the Seventh District responded to the 3400 block of 22nd Street, SE, to investigate the possible sounds of gunshots at that location. Upon arrival, officers discovered Mr. Henry of the 2000 block of Savannah Street, SE, suffering from apparent multiple gunshot wounds. DC Fire and Emergency Medical Services Department personnel responded to the scene, but could find no signs consistent with life. The subject was pronounced dead on the scene by a representative from the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner for the District of Columbia.
The suspects arrested on Thursday are 22-year-old Shawn Curry of Southeast, DC; 22-year-old Alonzo Marshall of Northeast, DC; 32-year-old Javon Roberts of Southeast, DC; and 29-year-old Michael Walters of Southeast, DC. Each has been charged with Murder One While Armed. The arrests were made without incident by members of the Seventh District and the Narcotics and Special Investigations Division.
In the homicide of Ashton Hunter, members of the Metropolitan Police Department’s Fugitive Task Force arrested 21-year-old Darrell Calvin Lee of Southeast, DC pursuant to an arrest warrant. He has been charged with First Degree Murder While Armed.
At approximately, 8 p.m., on Saturday, October 31, 2009, officers assigned to the Sixth District were called to the 300 block of 37th Street, SE to investigate the report of a shooting. Upon arrival, they located Mr. Hunter of the 300 block of 37th Street, SE suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. DC Fire and Emergency Medical Services Department personnel responded to the scene and transported the victim to Prince George’s Hospital Center, where he was pronounced dead.
In the homicide of George Wakefield, members of the Capital Area Regional Task Force arrested 25-year-old Patrick Wilson, of Alexandria, Va. pursuant to an arrest warrant. He has been charged with Murder Two While Armed.
Shortly before 1:00 am on Saturday, October 17, 2009, officers from the Fifth District responded to the 1100 block of 21st Place, NE, to investigate the report of a subject calling for help. Upon arrival, police discovered Mr. Wakefield at that location suffering from an apparent stab wound. He was transported by personnel from the DC Fire and Emergency Medical Services Department to an area hospital where he was pronounced dead at 1:40 am.
