CORRECTION: As it pertains to the Unauthorized Use of Vehicle.., please disregard "and upon his return it was not gone." It should read.., "upon his return, the vehicle was gone."

Goodmorning., your attention is directed to the below listed information as it pertains to the two specific offenses you requested:

Unauthorized Use of Vehicle: The Complainant reported he parked his vehicle in the 4300 blk of Eastern Avenue, NE, and upon his return it was not gone.

Burglary: Fifth District officers received a radio assignment for a Burglary Alarm sounding in the 2800 blk of Brentwood Rd., NE. Upon their arrival, it was noted the front door was cracked opened. As a precautionary measure, the officers called into the house and did not get a response nor did they hear movement. A request was made from the alarm company to notify the homeowner to respond. Upon the homeowner's arrival, a walk through was conducted and it was gleaned that unkown suspect(s) entered the home through compromising a locking mechanism on a window and while inside, commandeered an assortment of electronics. It was further determined that unknown suspect(s) left the premises through the front door.

SAFETY TIP: Burglars have been known to pop locking mechanisms on certain windows by pressing firm on the frame close to where the lock(s) are located and then bang on the frame. As added measures, a bar across the window or possible nails embedded on the inside of the window frame can help prevent a window from fully opening up to allow a human body to enter.

An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure.

Additionally, anyone with information on this matter can anonymously call 202) 727-9099.
