      If he was not wearing a helmet, a fall could easily be fatal.  As a cyclist for the past 25+ years, I have absolutely no trouble believing it.  Anything lodging in the front fork/fender would cause a very abrupt stop, along with potential loss of steering control.  You could be easily thrown from the bike and land head-first.  Especially if he was traveling at any decent speed, this could easily prove fatal.

       Fatal Bicycle Accident: 700 Block of Morton Street, NW

       

      (Washington, DC)-Detectives from the Metropolitan Police Department’s Major Crash Unit are investigating the fatal bicycle accident which occurred in the 700 block of Morton Street, NW.

       

      On Saturday, January 12, 2013, at approximately 4:53 am, a Fourth District Officer was flagged down in reference to an unconscious person in the 700 block of Morton Street, NW.  Upon arrival, the officer located an unconscious adult male bicyclist lying in the roadway.   The investigation revealed that it was apparent that the property the victim had tied down became loose, fell, and lodged within the front fender, spokes and forks of the bicycle causing the victim to lose control and fall.  DC Fire and Emergency Medical Services personnel transported the victim to a local hospital where he succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead.
