William H. Mo(o)refield was the son of Allen
    Message 1 of 2 , May 5, 2005
William H. Mo(o)refield was the son of Allen<William<John, Sr. He and
Nancy Caroline (Wood) had at least 13 children, two of whom were Emma C.
born about 1869 and Senah F., age 11 in the 1880 census, but not listed in
      the 1870 census.

There is a Pulaski Co, VA marriage record for C.T. Morefield (female) to J.A.
Moore (male) 24 jul 1889. Somewhere on Homeplace, there is a post to the
effect that this was James A. Moore and Emma C. Morefield, d/o William H.
and Nancy Caroline (Wood) MFLD (I couldn't find the post, but have
      Homeplace listed as my source.)

As I have been working on census records, I have come across some data
which make me think that James A. Moore married Senah F. Morefield, not
Emma C. First, I found these records:

      1920 Newbern, Pulaski, VA p. 4 ED 62 #79/79
Morefield, Nancy C. 80 wid NC NC NC (Ancestry indexed as Naney)
Rorrer, Emma C. dau 47 wid VA NC NC
Beatrice T. granddaughter 14 VA VA VA
Alice L. granddaughter 12 VA VA VA
(next door: James A. Moore 58; wife Senah F. age 49

      1930 Pulaski, PUlaski, VA ED 11 p. 6B #108/153
Cummings, William head 57 m.@age 34 WV WV WV
Beatrice wife 24 VA NC VA
Woodson son 22 VA WV VA
Frances dau 14 VA WV VA
Ruth dau 3 2/12 VA WV VA
Rorrer, Emma mother-in-law 58 wid VA NC NC
      Cummings, Woodson roomer 23
      Lester, eliza servant 18 div

Now, it could be that Emma married James A. Moore, he died, she married a
Rorrer and he died. However, in 1920 next door to Nancy C. Morefield was
      the following household:

      1920 Newbern, Pulaski, VA ED 62 p. 4B #80/80
Moore, James A. 58 VA VA VA
Senah F. 49 VA NC NC
      Emma B. dau 18
      Etta L. dau 16
      Joseph G. son 15
      Claude T. son 13
      Albert D. son 10
      William c. son 8
      (#74/74 Jack A. Morefield; #84/84 William W. Morefield)

      And there are these:

      1900 Newbern, Pulaski, VA ED 48 p. 17A #286/286
      Moore, Albert J. b. jun 1861 age 28 m. 12 yrs. all b. VA
      Senah b. nov 1873 age 26 m. 12 yrs. 4/4
      Mable dau b. jul 1892 age 7
      Harless son b. mar 1894 age 6
      Charlie son b. jun 1895 age 4
      Luster son b. mar 1899 age 1

      1910 Newbern, Pulaski, VA p. 93B #82/82
Moore, Albert J. 48 m. 20 yrs. all b. VA except as noted
      Senah H. 39 m. 20 yrs 11/9 VA NC NC
      Mabel A. 16 Harless R. 15 Charlie E. 13
      Lester J. 11 emma B. 9 Etta L. 6
      Joseph G. 4 cloyd E. 3 albert D. 11/12

On some of the records, Senah looks like Sarah, unless you zoom in to the
maximum. I am descended from William H.'s brother, Josiah, and there are
      Senah's in Josiah's line, too.

Anyway, I think the C.T. Morefield on the marriage record was Cenah F. and
that the sisters were mixed up somehow. The ages on the 1880 census do
      not agree with the 1870--Emma c. was age 1 in 1870 and age 13 in 1880;
Senah F. did not appear on the 1870 and was age 11 in 1880. The 1889
marriage record gave the bride's age as 18=@1872, which is pretty consistent
with the 1900, 1910, and 1920 census records.

      I haven't found a Rorrer, Rorer, Rohrer in 1900 or 1910, so I don't know who
Emma married, but the Rorrer name is clear on the 1920 and 1930 census
      records.

Pat, last May 21, 2004 I went to the Pulaski courthouse for a
second visit to pick up where I left off in Jan. 2003, and had on my
list to double check this marriage. I actually pulled the original
document, and the listing is written as C. T. Morefield, 18 year old
daughter of W. H. and N. C. Morefield She was born and living in
Pulaski Clounty. Husband was J. A. Moore, 27 year old son of C. and
        M. Moore, born and living in Wythe County. He was listed as a
carpenter and they were married by J. Kersey.

I am in agreement with your feeling that this was Senah F. Bill
