Boreal Chickadee near Seeley Lake (Swan Mountains)
- Hi MOB,
I hiked the trail to Morrell Falls, near the town of Seeley Lake, in
the Swan Mountains this afternoon. A few hundred meters from the
falls themselves, I came across a chickadee flock that consisted of
Black-capped (1), Chestnut-backed, and 1 BOREAL CHICKADEE, which
seemed notable for the location. Does anyone know of any other
records for the southern Swans? It seems pretty far south from what I
think of as MT Boreal Chickadee habitat (Glacier NP).
According to MT Bird Distribution, there was at least 1 sighting from
latilong 15C, but where I was today was in 15D.
If anybody has any further info, that would be great.
Also, I rounded out the Montana chickadee grand slam with many
Mountains on the way back to the car.
It was a good afternoon!
I saw a Boreal on the Swan/Clearwater divide, above Owl Creek on the
Swan side, in November several years ago. Not too far as the
chickadee flies from Morell Falls.
