The first gulls of the season were sighted at the Helena Valley Landfill this morning - about 20 circling around, most of which seemed to be Californias. Among 550 or so Canada Geese feeding in stubble fields along Hart Lane were 52 snow geese. And then while watching 18 Greater Scaup at the Lake Helena Causeway, another 100 white geese flew over. "Dr. Goose" - Mike Schwitters - will no doubt be recording increasing numbers of white geese at Freezout in coming days!

The Greater Scaup at the causeway were close enough to offer good views of this species. Unfortunately, there did not appear to be any Lesser Scaup among them for good comparison viewing.
