Re: Why many "black"/MGM/interacial parents don't reveal their mixedness ?
- Ah, lol haven't seen a Zac post in a while.
Let me give my take on the issue.
There are some topics that overlap.
Who has admixture.
What is considered significant admixture and why.
Why the clash as to who is mixed and who is not.
Most all populations on this earth have some level of admixture.
Obviously there has to be something that makes some admixture
significant enough that it affects the identity of the person.
Most anyone will agree that if your phenotype causes you
to question your ancestry, it is significant enough.
If growing up you are aware of admixture, it is significant enough.
In other words, some type of awareness is usually what is required,
for most people to give this identity some weight and validity.
Finding out about admixture is a third way of acquiring a mixed
identity, but again, how much it really affects a person,
versus how much is just escapism or what not matters.
Many people are obsessed with finding something to make them special.
They will search and search until they find something in their
ancestry and will latch their identity to whatever they found.
One could call them one time admixture a long time ago type people.
This is a little different than someone who comes
from a family with multiple instances of mixture.
Of course if that far off admixture made a huge impact
in the family identity, then it also is valid.
I think many first gen mixed people and others with significant
admixture have a negativity towards MGM claims from one time,
long time agoers is because of the claim used by certain groups:
We are all mixed, your experience is not special.
In other words downplaying the mixed experience.

We need an extreme MGM movement in the 2000's!

YES! EXACTLY !!
The Links below support the fact of the matter that
MGM lineage is often attacked on all sides ... be it
the 'mono'-racial nationalist; the 3Ms, the TMs; the
Racist-Colorist, Double-Standard, One-Droppists; or other.
MIXED-RACE / MULTI-RACIAL
THE 3Ms (Malevolently-Militant-Multiracials / MMMs)
THE TMs (Tragic Mulattoes / Tragic Multi-racials)
THE MGMs (Multi-Generational Multiracials)
THE AA's (African-American largely multi-racial Ethnicity)
THE AFRO-AMERINDIANS (African & American "Indian" Lineage)

One very common reason is due to the unbelievably high level of
hostility, mean-spiritedness, lack of support and acceptance and
otherwise vicious encounters that many of them (as people/families
of MGM-Mixed lineage) have encountered and quite often
receive from people who are of FGM-Mixed parentage.
Many FGM-Mixed individuals were reared with a 3M-Mentality
and, thus, are under the very erroneous (not to mention
Colorist and double-standard) impression that one can
only be Mixed-Race under the following circumstances:
1) The person MUST be the product of at least one parent who was
not erroneously 'categorized' (due to the one-drop rule) as "black"
(ex. must have a White, Asian, Amerindian or Latino parent);
2) The person MUST have a phenotype (i.e. appearance)
that fits into the modern-day "stereotypical" (generally,
Colorism-based) notion of "how" Mixed-Race "must look";
3) The person MUST be a member of one of the modern-day
"recognized" Mixed-Race ethnic or cultural groups
(ex. Latino, Creole, Melungeon, etc.);
In fact, quite often, if a person is on an MGM-Mixed lineage, yet
does not meet at least one of the above criteria -- there are a large
number of FGM-Mixed people (particularly those who were reared with
a 3M-Mentality) who will choose to (and seek other to join them as
well) do things which include, but are not limited to, the following:
--- endlessly harass them
(ex. calling them racist names and falsely
one-dropping them as being Black-race);
--- question their lineage
(ex. demanding a documented "proof" of their
ancestry that they demand from no other group);
--- view their features through a Colorist-prism
(ex. telling them their hair-texture; facial-features or
body-shape-size-type are not "acceptable" as Mixed-Race);
--- openly mock their Mixed-Race "identity"
(falsely accusing them of being 'wannabees', etc.)
There are actually a high number of Mixed-Race people who have
literally dedicated themselves so strongly to their 3M-Mentality
that they have both proclaimed and made it abundantly clear that
-- ((due to their hatred of MGM-Mixed people who may not
meet at least one of the above 3M-based "criteria" ))
they, as 3Ms, absolutely do not and will never consider
supporting the Mixed-Race or Multi-Racial Movement.
[Many of these 3M individuals were under the wrong impression
that 'The Movements' were created in order to divide Mixed-Race
people from mono-racial people (particularly from those who were
mono-racially-'Black') -- rather than to help Mixed-Race people feel
free to embrace ALL parts of their FULL-lineage and heritages.]
One would be amazed at how often a person of MGM-Mixed
lineage has been cruelly attacked by 3Ms who either adhere
to one or all of the 3M "criteria" noted above OR to a
Colorist/Double-Standard view of the One-Drop Rule and
-- unfortunately, quite often, when a person who is of MGM-Mixed
lineage has made attempts to learn more about and receive support
in publicly and proudly embracing their genotype (lineage) ...
they find themselves attacked by 3Ms who hold a bigotry against
and aversion to the person, due to the to phenotype (appearance).
Thus -- the reason "why" so many "black"-categorized people --
who are actually of an known and proven fully MGM-Mixed lineage
-- don't "reveal" this fact ... is because they want to protect
either themselves or their children from being attacked by the
Mixed-Race people who are of a rabidly 3M-Mentality/Worldview.
One-Drop Rule = The racist concept that having any
amount of mono-racially 'Black' blood in one's lineage
(down to even a miniscule 'drop') demanded that
one be categorized as being mono-racially 'Black'.

I want to ask this question is that why many "black-identitied
or classified"/ really multigenerational mixed-race(by mixed-race
ancestry) parents who have kids from interracial relationships
don't reveal their mixed heritage to their kids.
I find that to be silly and sad.
I myself is multigenerationally mixed race from mixed ancestry.
Both of my parents are mixed/partial blacks with white
& Native American ancestry, but were classified
as monoracial blacks by racist one drop rule.
They aren't pure black because their parents' parents
aren't pure by not having pure black African ancestry.
Our family is product of tri-racial mixture
(black, white, and Native American), okay!
When I get married to whomover whether she shares
black heritage or not, my kids are going to know
from day one that they aren't monoracial!
I don't understand why many "black"/MGM interracial parents refuse
or don't their partial black kids that they (the parents) aren't
monoracial blacks, either. That they are mixed-race as well.
It doesn't make any sense at all! One drop rule is the
reason that they were falsely classified "pure blacks"!
