      Southeast Missouri State University Art Academy Workshops - Summer 2014 

       The Art Academy Workshops are engaging andcreative learning experiences in a wide variety of media for ages 6 through adult. The workshops are held in the Southeast Missouri State University Art Studios under the guidance of experienced and highly qualified Master Art Educators and Art Professors. Each instructor will also have a Southeast University pre service art teacher. All classes are limited to 15 students. Student work will be on exhibit at the Arts Council of Southeast Missouri through the month of August.

      Art Workshops for  Ages 6-9

      Children’s CeramicsJune 2-6  for ages 6-9 from  8:30 – 10:30  a.m.Students   will enjoy this beginning class in ceramics where they will make animals, masks, and simple pottery with terra cotta  and low fire glazes. Instructor: Ceramics Professor BenjieHeu,  Ceramics studio, 835 Broadway, corner of Pacific and Broadway (behind Howard’s Sporting Goods). Fee: $100.

      Painting  - June 9-13 – for ages 6-9 from   9:00 a.m. –noon. Children will create in a wide variety of painting techniques in  two and three dimensional materials. Instructor: Tina Sample, Serena Building, room 312. Fee: $100.

      Drawing  - June16-20 – for  ages 6-9 – from –9:00 a.m. – noon . Children will enjoy  dreaming  and  drawing with a wide variety of material: pastel, ink, charcoal, and more! Instructor- BrendaSeyer, Serena Building, room 312. Fee: $100.

      Recycled Art!June 23-27-   for ages 6-9 from  9:00 a.m. – noon . Children will create their own masterpieces with found objects! Instructor: Susan Lane, Serena Building, room 312. Fee: $100.

      Collage Constructions!– July7-11 – for ages 6-9 from 9:00 a.m. to noon.- Children will enjoy using their imagination to create collages  using a wide variety of media: paint,  prints, photos, found objects and more!.– Instructor: Nikki  Heuring - Serena Building, room 312. Fee: $100.

      Creative CreaturesJuly 14- 18 for ages 6-9 from 9:00 a.m. to noon. Children will create their own creatures using a wide variety of two and three dimensional media. Instructor – Becky Coleman- Serena Building . Room 312 Fee: $100.

      Sculpture -July 21-25 – for ages 6-9 from 9:00 a.m. - noon.Children will explore and create relief and in the round sculptures using wood, paper, clay, and much more! Instructor- Debbi Bollinger -Serena Building, room 312. Fee: $100.

      ART Workshops for Ages 10-15

      Young Potters  June 2-6- for ages 10-15  -  from 2:00-4:00  p.m.Students will learn to operate a potter’s wheel to make functional pottery including bowls and cups, as well as explore hand building with clay. –Instructor  Ceramic Professor BenjieHeu. Ceramics studio, 835 Broadway, corner of Pacific andBroadway(behind Howard’s Sporting Goods). Fee: $100.

      Painting -June 9-13 for ages 10-15 from – 1:00- 4:00 p.m.  Students will create a variety of painting techniques using a wide variety media. Instructor–Janienne Moore- Serena Building, room 312. Fee: $100.

      Drawing June 16-20 for ages 10-15from 1:00 -4:00 p.m.  Students will develop and explore drawing techniques in perspective, value, and proportion using pastel, ink, charcoal and more!  Instructor Beth Thomas – Serena Building, room 312. Fee: $100.

      Recycled Art - June 23-27 for ages 10-15 from 1:00-4:00 p.m. Students will create works of art from found objects.  Instructor: Beth Thomas, Serena Building, room 312. Fee: $100

      Fabulous Fairy Tales and Fables-July 7-11 – for ages 10-15 from 1:00 -4:00 p.m.  Students will use a variety of media to create their favorite stories.  Instructor – Andrea Schneider, Serena Building room 312. Fee: $100.

      Folklore Creature Creations! – July 14-18 for ages 10-15 from 1:00- 4:00 p.m. Students will create their own 3 dimensional creature based on folklores with University Professor and Folklore Creator Michael Baird. Serena Building room 312. Fee: $100.

      Sculpture July 21-25-  for ages 10-15from 1:00-4:00 p.m.  Students will investigate multiple sculpture techniques using  a variety of art media to create three dimensional artworks. Instructor: Debbie Bollinger Serena Building, room 312. Fee: $100.

      ART Workshops for Ages 16 to Adult (contactchorst@... to receive graduate credit for teachers )

      Raku PotteryJune 3 & 10 – for ages 16 to adult from  6:30-8:30 p.m. – (Students will create Raku friendly forms of pottery, wheel and hand build with clay with University Ceramic Professor BenjieHeu. Ceramics studio, 835 Broadway, corner of Pacific and Broadway. Fee: $60.

      Oil Painting-June 10, 11, 12 – for ages 16 – adult from 1:00-4:00 p.m.Students will work primarily from a still life using indirect painting, under painting, and glazing techniques with University Painting Professor Justin Miller, River Campus ,Room 047. Fee: $60.

      Large Scale Drawing - June 17 & 18 - for ages 16 to adult from - 6:30-9:00 p.m. Expand your drawings into life-sized images and spaces.  No drawing experience required. Students will cover basic drawing skills such as gesture drawing, positive/negative shape and space, composition, value tones, line sensitivity and perceptual accuracy with University Drawing Professor Kathy Smith, River Campus Room 042. Fee: $60.

      Market Baskets – June 24 and 25 for ages 16 to adult from 6:30-9:30 p.m.at the River Campus Fiber Studio Room 034.  Student will create a woven reed  12” x 12” or   12” x16” market basket with University Art Department Chair Caroline Kahler. Fee: $60.

      Portable Paintings - July 8, 9, for ages 14 to adult from 1-4 p.m. Join us for this fun, informative workshop focusing on the tradition of modern graffiti and street art!  We will examine the properties of color and composition, develop personal symbolism and text elements, and investigate the materials of acrylic paint and static vinyl.  The workshop will culminate in a final “portable painting”, ready for public display with University  Art Professor Emily Booth. River Campus Room, 039. Fee: $60.

      Folklore Creatures – July 15 and 16 for ages 16 to adult from 6:30- 9:00 p.m.  Students will create creatures based on folklore in a wide variety of sculptural media with master folklore creator and University Art Professor Michael Baird.  Serena Building room 312. Fee: $60
