About the stay requirement - if you book for a Wed-Sat, you have to book at least 4 nights during the season. If you book Sun-Tuesday, the requirement is only 2 nights. Walkups can be any time period - one night or as many as they have available, up to 7 nights.

      > Yes, I have seen walk-ins - especially for the water only sites. A good way to find out what's available is to use the grid on the reservations site. Like right now, I know that there is a WES site available in the nice section of the campground starting Saturday for a few nights. It's open on the grid and it can't be reserved via the website because it's only 2 days away. So that site will be first come, first served. Walk ins also don't incur the $12 reservation fee. The grid is an excellent tool to get an idea of what's available or going to be available. I'm going to bed now but if you want more help on using the grid, I'll get back to you tomorrow.

      > Smith's Point is a very popular/busy campground. Reservations are available 6 months in advance, and let me tell you, it's a fight. The new reservations open at 7pm and most are gone within 3-4 minutes. They are introducing a new reservations system in December that is supposed to be better and easier to use. That's to be seen. The biggest change is that they will require payment upon making the reservation whereas right now, you pay when you check in. This year a full hookup site (W,E,S) is $32 per night I believe for tourists. All advance reservations have a $12 reservation fee on top of the nightly fee. There are quite a few sites that back up to the dunes right on the ocean. Others have beautiful bay views. We love it there and this year were fortunate enough to have almost every other week reserved in July and August. They have a 7 day on, 7 day off policy, too. No camper is allowed to stay longer than 7 nights without 7 nights in between
