Don't forget to clear your share of the winter wonderland
- The snow is here! Help kids walking to school, seniors
heading out for groceries, commuters on their way to
public transportation--and everyone in the
community--by clearing your sidewalk asap. It's not
only the right thing to do--it's the law. A message

Shovel It! Walk Winter in Chicago
Snow and ice on sidewalks makes it difficult, even
dangerous to get around in the Winter. This goes
double for seniors and children whose mobility can be
hit hard by un-cleared sidewalks.
Help us to keep Chicago walking year-round by
remembering to shovel the sidewalk in front of your
house. And while youre at it, why not help your
neighbor with theirs too?
But dont take our word for it. Chicagos Sidewalk
Snow Removal Ordinance (0-8-180) requires that
everyone "shall remove the snow and ice from the
sidewalk and to use salt if the ice is stubborn.
Failure to comply can result in an hefty ticket.
And doing nothing isnt an option! Its a common
misconception that attempting to remove snow and ice
renders property owners liable. The State stepped in
to clarify with the Illinois' Snow and Ice Removal Act
(P.A. 86-1324.) (745 ILCS 75/1) which explains that
anyone making a good faith effort to remove snow and
ice shall not be liable for any personal injuries
allegedly caused by the snowy or icy condition of the
