We provide live support, education & guidance for canines and felines afflicted with liver shunt (a/k/a PSS/portosystemic shunt, CPSS/congenital portosystemic shunt), PSVA and/or MVD/HMD (a/k/a congenital portal hypoplasia, microvascular dysplasia, hepatic microvascular dysplasia or hepatoportal microvascular dysplasia) in a forum that promotes sensitivity & provisioning for factual information provided by those who are intimately involved and/or educated & experienced on the subject.

The picture to the right is of Dr. Karen M. Tobias, DVM, MS, Diplomate American College of Veterinary Surgeons, University of Tennessee College of Veterinary Medicine (1 of our 3 medical advisors) holding an ameroid ring constrictor (ARC). Use of the ARC has been documented to have a better success rate at shunt occlusion, is faster & provides for quicker post-op recovery and fewer complications compared to other techniques. Whenever medically possible, this is the preferred method for liver shunt correction.

Visit some of our success story pets: http://livershunt.net

BILE ACID TEST YOUR PETS! This is NOT done as part of routine blood work-you MUST request it and insist it be done if you suspect liver disease! The KEY to providing the best odds for optimal health and longevity of a liver shunt or MVD pet will be EARLY detection (emphasis added)!

Owners,
Stephen & Debbie
