Hi, I have been trying to configure remote access via ftp to my
Linkstation. When trying to connect using ws-ftp I get the
      following messages.

      connecting to 66.57.xx.xxx:21
      connected to 66.57.xx.xxx port 21
      220 ANDY_LINK FTP server ready
      USER andy
      331 Password required for andy
      PASS (hidden)
      230 User andy logged in
      CWD /share
      250 CWD command successful
      PWD
      257 "/share" is current directory.
      SYST
      215 UNIX Type: L8
      Host type (s): UNIX (standard)
      PASV
      227 Entering Passive Mode (192,168,1,3,12,127)
      connecting to 192.168.1.3:3199
      --
      connecting to 192.168.1.3:3199
!connection failed 192.168.1.3 - connection timed out
      !connect: error 0
      PORT 152,3,150,105,17,221
      200 PORT command successful
      LIST

And then nothing happens. The initial IP address is my static IP
address, I've set up my router to forward it through to port 21.
The IP address 192.168.1.3 is my internal lan IP address for the
linkstation. It appears to log in using my userid and password, and
forwards to port 21. Can anyone give me some advice?

      Thanks,

      Andy

TP needs a lot more ports to function than 1. I won't
bore you with the details, so look here:

        http://slacksite.com/other/ftp.html

You need two low number ports and about 3 or 4 high
        numbered ports to function.

ssh and scp (secure copy) only require one port and
        they are much much safer.

        Open up 20, 21, 1025, 1026, 1027 and you need to use
the right FTP mode which I think you are.
