      Most likely you need an ifup eth0:1 in the appropriate startup
      script. For me, /etc/rc.d/rcS.d/S44networking has /sbin/ifup eth0
      and /sbin/ifup lo. Add /sbin/ifup eth0:1 in there somewhere...
