California town passes ordinance against USA Patriot
      ----------
      Washington Post
"[Arcata] has become the first in the nation to pass an ordinance
that outlaws voluntary compliance with the Patriot Act." (4/21/03)
      MoreAt http://www.free-market.net/rd/244982194.html

Last month, it joined the rising chorus of municipalities to pass a resolution urging local law enforcement officials and others contacted by federal officials to refuse requests under the Patriot Act that they believe violate an individual's civil rights under the Constitution. Then, the city went a step further.
This little city (pop.: 16,000) has become the first in the nation to pass an ordinance that outlaws voluntary compliance with the Patriot Act.

      ARCATA, THE DEFIANT
Town ordinance penalizes officials who cooperate with Patriot Act, but law
may not stand up in court

      Kevin Fagan, Chronicle Staff Writer
      Sunday, April 13, 2003

Dave Meserve, Arcata City Councilman, will be appearing on the Fox News
program "The O'Riley Factor" Monday night.

He will be talking about (defending) the Arcata City ordinance: To Protect
Civil Liberties and the Bill of Rights (anti-Patriot Act ordinance).

If you're not aware of the Fox News program or Mr. O'Riley, he presents a
right-wing conservative view and appears to delight in his attempts to rip
apart Liberals (or anyone who doesn't share his view of life or politics,
      ala Rush Limbaugh).

Meserve has said "It's not about right or left wing politics, it's about
defending the Constitution and the Bill of Rights" -something that
conservatives should agree with. Dave seems prepared and fully knowledgeable
about this issue, the show should be interesting.

      Good Luck Dave!
