This important event in the IATEFL year is to be devoted to the
presentation, demonstration and discussion of ways of using computers
for learning and teaching pronunciation. The day is being jointly
organised by Tilly Warren, of the Computer SIG, and Michael Vaughan-Rees
of the Pronunciation Special Interest Group. There will be opportunities
to hear the thoughts of experts currently working in this field such as
Martha Pennington, Peter Roach (University of Reading), Richard
Cauldwell (University of Birmingham), Gunther Kaltenboeck (University of
Vienna) and Gail Stankler (CELE, University of Nottingham). Papers
presented by keynote speakers will be followed by hands-on sessions.
These will provide concrete ideas for integrating pronunciation
activities with the computer in the classroom, as well as the chance to
see new software in action. In addition, you will have the chance to
exchange ideas and explore wider issues and implications for self-study,
classroom methodology and integration into institutional settings.
