No I've always advocated transit being paid from the rising land values
      it creates.
If you charge high fares you deter many potential riders who then use
private transport and create more congestion, pollution and crash
      casualties!

You also subsidise the landowners whose rental value of their locations
rises with the improvements and maintenance of good transport links -
why defend this community created wealth being redistributed to
      landowners as an unearned gain?

      Dave

So you go from subsidising cars to subsidising transit?

      David,
If this were to happen the LVT receipts would fall as land values in
      central
areas are largely dependant on good access.
Hence, it would be better to subsidise public transport than to lose
      this
      revenue.

In addition, public transport operators currently pay all other taxes (
property taxes, sales taxes, income taxes, NI etc.) and would pay less
      of
      these as LVT replaced them.
In addition land would be cheaper for building new lines etc.
      Best Wishes,
      Dave
