Aug 24-Nov 11 11a-5pm Francophile Arts & Culture SIG Free Exhibition
"When Artists Attack the King: Honoré Daumier and 'La Caricature,' 1830-1835"

Work by the original bad boys of political satire goes on view August 1.

As press coverage of the 2012 American presidential election heats up, this
Exhibition explores the art that ignited a 19th-century battle over politics and
freedom of the press. The weekly Paris journal La Caricature, founded in 1830
shortly after Louis-Philippe I (1773-1850) took the French throne, quickly
became the King's worst enemy in his fight for popular approval. It published
hundreds of lithographs by Honoré Daumier (1808-1879) and other artists that
thoroughly ridiculed the July Monarchy, as Louis-Philippe's reign was known.
See how, in the approximately 50 prints on view, La Caricature used social
visual puns, and physical caricature to mock the July Monarchy's ministers,
their censorship of the press, and the King's physical appearance.

Ongoing every day from August 1, through November 11.
      Open Wed-Sun 11am - 5pm, Thursdays until 8pm; admission is free.

Join for the sessions and stay the networking and food.
Code Camp is a new type of community event where developers learn from fellow
developers. All are welcome to attend and speak. Code Camps have been wildly
successful, and we're going to bring that success to Northern California.

Expect lots of education, networking and good food. The basic format is that we
start with registration Saturday morning outside the main area where classe
happen (check the News Page for details). After that, we will have a short
briefing in the quad followed by lots of sessions. Lunch follows after that, more
sessions, then usually a BBQ for volunteers and speakers provided by one of
our generous sponsors. Sunday, there is no opening meeting. If you registered
Saturday, you can go right to your session. If not, register first, then go to your
session. Make sure to bring your badge from Saturday registration.

Computer labs are setup and there should be free wireless available
(check your sign in documents you received from registration).

Heterogeneous System Architecture (HSA): An Overview
Time: 6:30 PM (PT) Networking/Refreshments, 7:00 PM Presentation
      Please register in advance at

Heterogeneous computing is main stream, it can be found in almost all modern
media devices and it can be found in the cluster of the supercomputing world
too. However, to date each system is different and heterogeneous can mean
different ISAs, different memory buses, different execution models and on and
on. This variation makes it almost impossible to build a single portable
application. It is not always clear who benefits from this model,
but one thing is certain: it is not the developer!
The Heterogeneous System Architecture (HSA) is intended to address these
issues directly at the definition of the platform. Originally proposed by AMD,
HSA is an industry wide foundation that in June 2012 released an abstract
machine specification, including an execution model and memory model
capable of supporting a wide range of programming models and languages
ranging from C++11 to Java and beyond.
