Bicycle Film Society 11th March Show - Six Day Bicycle Racing
- Bicycle Film Society 11th March Show - Six Day Bicycle Racing
The HBFS show for March will be the documentary Six Day Bicycle Racing.
Six day bicycle racing originated in Britain but was huge in America where it was once the biggest spectator sport.
In the 1920s and 1930s, events held at indoor tracks around the the US attracted bigger crowds and paid bigger purses than baseball, football, or hockey. This fascinating documentary tells the story of six-day racing in America from its beginning in the last decade of the 19th century up to attempts at revival in the 1970s with interviews with racers and mechanics, archive footage and pictures
The show will begin with the usual 30 mins of short bicycle films form around the world and if there enough takers before the night begins will with have our celebs on bikes competition. The competiton seemed to fall rather flat on the last show night so this will only happen if people request it happens before the night.
