      European Car Free Day!

Yes folks! This Saturday 22nd September 2001, Lambeth will be celebrating
European Car Free Day in Effra Road, Brixton. A section of the road by St
Matthew's church will be closed to motor traffic and opened to various
      public events throughout the day.

Various activities are planned such as cycle racing, music, cycle training,
Dr Bike, and food stalls. Much of this will be childrens events. Also
planned is a stall to promote cycling generally and Lambeth Cyclists in
      particular!

The road will be closed all day until about 7pm. Hopefully you can make it
to take part in the festivities!

At 12 noon a leisurely ride will set off from the Ritzy Cinema to the events
at Tower Bridge, where Car Free Day is being celebrated in Central London.
Ken Livingstone will be making a guest star appearance at 2pm along with one
or two EU dignitaries, as will the 'Singing Elvis'! Southwark Cyclists will
be joining this ride at The Ritzy from their meeting point in Dulwich Park
      at 11.30am.

A free Cyclists Breakfast is also planned to coincide with this ride. It is
to be provided by the Phoenix Caf from about 10.30am until noon. Please
bring your LCC membership card to get a free breakfast!

** We also need volunteers! **
Come and be involved in the fun! If you can come along for a couple of hours
any time between 9am and 7pm please do let us know! We need volunteers for
the Lambeth Cyclists stall and for the various other events such as cycle
      racing. Please contact:
      carolyn.atkinson@...
stating what time you can make and a contact number if possible.

      Thanks, and enjoy the day!
