Below is a message from Carolyn Ramsey from Council District 4, please notify
      your neighbors about this March.

      Dear Neighbors,

An immigrant rights march is planned for Wilshire Boulevard on Monday, May
1, effectively closing Wilshire Boulevard for five hours, from 3p-8p, from
the west side of Alvarado Blvd. to LaBrea Ave.
Marchers will begin to gather at MacArthur Park at 3p.  The march is
expected to begin at 4p, ending at Wilshire and LaBrea.  A stage will be
erected at Wilshire and LaBrea for speeches.  The boulevard is expected to
      re-open at 8 p.m.
Because of potential traffic problems, the commanding officer of the LAPD's
Wilshire Division, Capt. Richard Wemmer, recommends that people who live in
the adjoining neighborhoods telecommute, leave work early or stay home
unless they plan to participate in the march.  Everyone should expect delays
and drive carefully if you choose to travel.  Depending on the event, Sixth
Street and Eighth Street could also be closed.
The estimates of expected marchers vary from 60,000 to 100,000, which is why
the boulevard will be closed for the entire stretch  for the entire
      five-hour period.
Please keep in mind that the marchers are exercising their First Amendment
rights.  The previous immigrant rights  marches have been peaceful and
there's no reason to expect that this one will be anything but peaceful.
Our office will keep you informed as more information becomes available.
      best,
      Carolyn
