      Did u try the --prefix option with the rpm !! This actually installs the contents of the packages in the location u provide with the --prefix option. You could mention the name of the mount point of your 8GB disk as an option to the --prefix. ( Ofcourse, there is a catch here ... The package needs to be relocatable :( ... You can check this by using the command rpm -qip <path_of_rpm_file> .. The first line states if the package is relocatable or not.
