Group Description

You want to play the blues! You want to know where the Jams are and who is running them! Who is hot .. want to hook up with other Long Island Musicians.. then this is the list for you!! This list is dedicated to the blues Musicians and fans which make the Long Island Blues scene healthy and vibrant. Check out the calender for local blues events and to find out where the Jams are.

As Stanely Crouch wrote:

"Those Jam contests created, as Ralph Ellison observed, the jazzman's academy. It was in those sessions that the young musicians learned, usually stumbling at first, sometimes leaving humiliated, but coming back and back and back until
they had risen to the standards of performance - command of blues and swing, ballads and harmony. It could be rough going but all those worthy of respect became stronger through the discipline. Since the middle 40s there have been
professional public performances using the jam session format and that is what you will hear this evening - a hot rhythm section, some saxophones and trombones, some blues, some ballads, some swing. Will some heads get cut? As Fats Waller said, "One never knows - do one?""
