Here is some crime information that needs to be spread for everyone's safety.
Crime In a Senior Center :
A white man, short in build, wearing dark clothing, middle wearing dark clothing at the time, middle aged saying he was there to check on oxygen machines. A 80 year old resident reported he had stolen all her cash from her purse. He apparently approached at least four other apartments in the building.
Please pass this along to any senior center you can!
Any type of oxygen business (especially Sparrow) will call first to setup an appointment and they all are required to carry identification.
Crime in a neighborhood:
Written by the victim: My 16 year old son was home at the time - between 9 and 10 am in the morning - last Tuesday (Jan. 26th). The guy came to the front door and knocked. My son did not answer. He saw the guy leave our front porch steps so went back upstairs to the bathroom. Shortly after, he heard a crash.
He flushed the toilet - alerting the guy who broke in that someone was in the house. When my son emerged from the bathroom to go downstairs to check on the crash, he saw the guy on the stairs. However, the guy was heading downstairs and did not see my son.
The guy was African American with his hair pulled back in a pony tail. My son guessed his age to be around 18, 19, 20 or so. The guy ran out the back door - which he had busted down - and got into the passenger side of the vehicle, suggesting that the guy had an accomplice.
They drove their vehicle into the driveway - all the way to the back of the house. We believe they checked on both houses next to ours and established that our neighbors were not at home. Then selected our house, in the middle, which would reduce the likelihood of being spotted by anyone.
Note: Mark your calendar for the second Wednesday of March at 6:30 pm. That will be Watch 149's first meeting in 09. We will have a speaker on making your home more secure. This meeting will be held at Sir Pizza in Old Town . Another reminder with more detail will be sent the first of March.
Officers believe we will be seeing more people driving through neighborhoods, (casing those empty as people are at work) so it is extremely important to look and see if you notice the same car making a couple passes down your street or parking on your street and walking down another block.
Dogs are still stated to being our best deterrent to home invasions. REMEMBER if you hear a neighbor's dog parking look to see why. Someone could be right in YOUR backyard!
