      Greetings Birders,

This Halloween evening from 7pm to 11pm in Del Rey Lagoon (Playa del Rey), there have been a pair of Mute Swan sleeping and resting close together, together with one male Bufflehead and one female Lesser Scaup, and approximately 85 American Coot.  These four species were aggregated quite close together in the northern quarter of the lagoon.

By the way, the tide gate of Del Rey Lagoon has been in the "locked down" position since 7am this morning so there has been no tidal exchange all day due to threat of rain this weekend.  The gate will remain closed through Monday, so it won't be good birding likely for shorebirds, but the waterfowl are using the full lagoon, until it begins to become stagnant sea water.
