The lower Los Angeles River continues to be good for shorebirds, with
multiple PECTORAL SANDPIPERS and BAIRD'S SANDPIPERS being reported this past
week. Check the areas north and south of the 405, Wardlow, Del Amo, Long
Beach and Willow Street crossings for good numbers and variety of
Two PACIFIC GOLDEN-PLOVERS were along the LA River this past week. One was
below the 405 Freeway on August 27 and another was about 500 yards north of
Del Amo on August 31.
A SEMIPALMATED SANDPIPER and a RED PHALAROPE continued through August 26 at
the Santa Clara River Estuary in Ventura.
A BLACK-AND-WHITE WARBLER was at Hahamongna Park (formerly Oak Grove Park)
in Pasadena on August 30. The warbler was by the roundabout northwest of
the ballfields in the lower part of the park in the morning but was not
refound later in the day. The park is at the east end of Foothill Blvd,
east of the 210 Freeway.
