Jim Moore just called to report that Jan Wilson and the SW Bird Study Group found two Barrow's Goldeneye a few minutes ago at Quail Lake, a male and female.
Jim said that the birds are along the base of the bluffs at the NE side of the lake. Access to this point requires a ~1.5 to 2 mile hike in, starting at the parking lot in the SW corner of the lake and following the dirt road along the south edge of the lake until it wraps around to the NE shore. It is also possible that the birds could be visible from CA-138 with a scope.
Based on Jim's directions, this is my best guess of the location of the birds: https://maps.google.com/maps?q=34.772781,-118.736164&num=1&t=h&gl=us&z=15
