Please welcome Chris Gorski as a new member - another part of the Indian
connection... Chris, there are several members in the group from "the
camps" - both in Africa and India.
Chris' e-mail below provides some information on his family, and I would
ask any members with further information on Valivade or India to share it
with the group. Chris, if you have any further infor on your parents
(residence, birthdates, etc.) that would help us to be helpful to you!
I saw your name on the webpage "aforgottenodyssey" and I look forward to
seeing the film when it plays in Hartford. I hope it will be available
for purchase .. I would very much like to have a copy.
I came across this site because I am looking for information about my own
family. My mother and father were from Wilno and were deported to Siberia.
I was born in Valivade and we migrated via Africa, Europe to Canada. I now
live with my family in Boston.
In about 10 days I will have an opportunity to go to Bombay and to Gujrat
India and I hope to find my way to Valivade but I can't find any
information on the internet or in any of the travel guides to even show me
where Valivade is. I write you in the hope that through your research you
might have some information that I might use to find my way. Any help would
be greatly appreciated.
My parents were Wanda Gorska and Captain Tadeusz Gorski. I was especially
interested in any information I can find about him ... I know almost nothing
about his past in Poland or about how or where he died.
I have had some more information regarding Valivade yesterday from a man in
Perth Australia who was in the camp in India with us till 1947. Stefan
Slusarczyk and his mother Ada knew us and remember us after 55 years. I
just found them by coincidence on a ships manifest going from India to
Freemantle. The rest was easy as he was the only Stefan Slusarczyk in the
Australian phone book. At any rate, he was familiar with a group in London
that had visited Valivade and had information.
Stefan, I think your film will have great interest for thousands of people
like me that are survivors or children of survivors.
Thanks for anything you can share. You are doing a wonderful thing.
Keep in touch and Best regards
