Brief Event Description:
Demonstration of horse archery and mounted `winged hussar' lancers of
the Polish Lithuanian Commonwealth in the 17th C.
Since the earliest days of horsemanship, those who would master the
grasslands of the world have first mastered the use of the bow and
lance. Up against effective guns and cannons in the 17th Century,
this ancient technology was still decisive in Eastern Europe and
Asia. In conjunction with the Fall-In! Miniatures game convention,
the Sienkiewicz Society - dedicated to celebration of the history and
culture of 17th C. Eastern Europe - is presenting a demonstration
of horse archery and mounted `winged hussar' lancers of the Polish
Lithuanian Commonwealth. We will also offer the adult public hands-
on matchlock musket, pike, saber, and cannon classes, and have
costume shows, games, music, and other activities for kids.
We are especially pleased that Lukas Novotny, head instructor for the
2003 International Horse Archery Festival, will be demonstrating his
skills for us in a special appearance.
Also, on Nov. 1-2, 2003 at Fort Randolf in Point Plesant WVA, our
group is participating in the reenactment of the Siege of Torun in
1658. Cannons, hussars, and more! Most activities are planned in the
early afternoon (noon to 3PM).
