Romuald, Janie, and all--
Thanks for the pictures, Romuald! I remember a few years ago when my daughter was at the same point in school. In 4th grade there was an immigration unit combined with ancestry and interviewing an immigrant. My daughter interviewed my father who was still living then. Her report was on Poland. Last year she choose to write about our cause when reading The Diary of Anne Frank. She corresponded with Chris Gladun for this report.
Currently my daughter is reading Elie Weisel's Night in her 8th grade advanced class. Yesterday we discussed how one can weave our families experiences into school discussions, etc. I told my daughter that it is her duty and responsibility to inform others whenever possible throughout her life. This is so important.
Last week we attended the Debate Club Awards banquet which she will be a member of next year when she is in high school. It was very impressive. The Club participates in the Model UN and also Model Congress (American). At the banquet video clips were shown of their debates of this past year. In the Model UN, the club represented Russia!
I still have not brought our cause to the attention of the history department for inclusion in the Holocaust course at our high school, but I will do this, hopefully soon.
Thank you for sharing your pictures and your story :-)
How wonderful that Sara conducted such a thorough interview and sparked an
interest among her classmates. Perhaps they will invite you to come and speak
I have twin 1- year olds and they also had a similar project at their school
this week. My son did his Polish heritage, my daughter did her Italian side.
He also touched briefly on his grandparents' time in Germany and displaced
persons camps. So the younger generation is getting bits and pieces of
information - hopefully the interest will continue. janie :-)
