Correction, in case misread – quote “all who suffered and died a true hero” should read “all who suffered and died are already a true hero” it is not the gallant soldier receiving a VC but the ordinary folk, who against their will, suffered and tried their best to stay alive and then start a new life in a strange country, these are the true hero’s, all of them, the people from the Kresy and those who suffered under Hitler and Stalin.
Mark, from what you quoted, the information was out there, but no one was listening and those who were captive could do nothing and there was a war to fight at Monte Casino, with both the Soviets and Germans, trying to turn the information against the other to their advantage with Stalin and Hitler, happy to be squeezing the life out of Poland between them, until Hitler got greedy and Stalin became scared, with The Polish people being used as Cannon Fodder for a Political end. Remember the saying “what goes around, comes around”. There are no words for the pain inflicted on the Polish people, or all the other innocents trapped between Stalin and Hitler, may they all rest in peace and be remembered, especially on ALL SOULS DAY and may the memory of our hero’s, all who suffered and died a true hero, never be forgotten and always honoured. We are their children, a wonderful Legacy they left behind, they made us strong and taught us pain to strengthen us further, so we could tell the truth of their life, the country they loved so much and perpetuate their memory and eventually bring justice, so their death is not wasted or swept under the Political carpet.
Respectfully I light a candle to their memory, celebrating their life.

Dear Lenarda and Chris,
The Germans made sure that everyone knew about this.Which is ironic as they were murdering thousands at the same time as this in the great ghetto clearances. 10,000 Jews from Bialystok arrived in Treblinka and himmler was inspecting Sobibor the same week as the news of Katyn broke... but I digress...
This, I am guessing was published for readers in Poland... It must be from the Germans - "died at the hands of the Jewish-Bolshevik executioners" is a bit of a giveaway. Although it is not very clear, I think this is the list of names published just as soon as the Germans had established this information. This newsheet is dated May 1943 and says 2500 had been identified. Amtliches Material zum Massenmord von Katyn http://szukajwarchiwach.pl/800/1/0/-/74/str/1/161#tab2 [German Version] when it was published had 4143 as of 7 June 1943. This information would have been available to the Polish forces straightaway. For some families with men in Soviet captivity this probably just confirmed their worst fears... for others, as we know, the information is only just now coming out.
Katyn news was also spread through "Signal", the Nazi international mouthpiece.http://szukajwarchiwach.pl/800/1/0/-/75/str/1/63#tab2 This version is in French, but it was published in several languages.
