Shows quite a few names in Osada Halerowka.Assume you have seen the article in "Stalin's Ethnic Cleansing" written by Maria Wozniak?Janusz----- Original Message -----From: simon kopijSent: Tuesday, July 03, 2012 1:29 PMSubject: Re: [Kresy-Siberia (est.2001)] Rowne/Rivne map pre 1939Hello Lenarda,Thank you for the link to the maps. It's more detailed than what I have seen to date but not detailed enough to lea to me to mum's place.Mum was born in Rowne in 1926. She was deported in 1939. She is now 86 years old and has never returned. I was born in Perth, Western Australia. In speak enough Polish to converse comfortably with mum. She has dementia but is at her best when talking about the old times.I have just returned from Poland and the Ukraine. We didn't locate mum's "patch of dirt" but we now have a context for the search. She lived in Osada Hallerowka. She told me that 5 families liveD in this Osada. She says the names were Osada, Nowak, Konopko, Starzyk and Dysleski. I can't find an exact location for Osada.I brought back photos and mum could recognize the Parish Church, the military church and the 3 rows of crosses in the cemetery. I think we have identified the school but can't get much further than that. She says that opposite their house was a Russian church with some gravestones in the grounds. On her walk into town and church she would pass a meat works and a rag factory. There was also a military cemetery. She talks of "Kino Zafrana" also. I'm thinking that we put most of our efforts into the wrong side of ul 3 Maja when we were in Rowne. That' where my search is currently at. Thank you for your help. I am new to this group bad hope that once I work out how to communicate through this forum I may make further progress.Kind regards.Simon Kopij

Hello Simon and welcome to group.
The closest to getting a pre 1939 map of Rowne, was from Strony O Wolyniu, here is the link http://translate.google.com.au/translate?hl=en&sl=pl&u=http://wolyn.ovh.org/strony.html&prev=/search%3Fq%3Drowne%2Bmapa%2B1939%26hl%3Den%26client%3Dfirefox-a%26hs%3De8W%26rls%3Dorg.mozilla:en-US:official%26prmd%3Dimvns&sa=X&ei=7DbyT4KfEIOuiAeywdWeDQ&ved=0CHAQ7gEwBw
and when you open site look for symbol <image001.jpg> click on this and then it will take you to another page with large map, look for ROWNE, click on this box and you will find the actual town, roads and all, also this map can be enlarged, by single click. There are many other links, still looking, they will turn up, but this is the quickest to find, helping you get started and find your direction.
