Nick, you are most welcome, it will be a journey like no other. good luck.
Thank you Helen Bitner for your welcome greeting.
My name is Nick Borek and I live in Bristol in the UK.
My Father Mieczyslaw Borek was born and grew up in the Smyga area of Eastern Poland until he was deported by the USSR along with the rest of his family to a labour camp in Siberia. On being allowed freedom of movement he eventually made his way to England via Palestine and the USA. He joined the Polish squadron of the RAF and served until being invalided out in 1949 following a plain crash.
My Father met my Mother in the small village of Noss Mayo next to the rehabilation centre in South Devon where he recovered from his accident. My parents married in 1952 and moved to Bristol several years later when my Father enrolled on a government retraining scheme for engineers.
My Father rarely spoke of his early life so I know little about the events that shaped him into the man I knew. Following my Father's death earlier this year I feel a need to find out more, which is my reason for joining this group.
