In rememberance of our Polish Pope John Paul, who helped bring down communism,
who died 6 years ago April 2, 2005.
May his vision still be felt by the world he touched and the walls he helped
dismantle never be rebuilt.
Our Last Goodbye
A seed of goodness was planted in Wadowica many years ago
This child became a man that the whole world would know
With sparkling eyes that radiated love from his gentle face
A son of Poland would become the Pope-His Holy Grace.
Karol Wojtyla was a simple man like you and me
And he believed that all people must be free.
Taking on the role of Pope he blessed his country with prayers
And as he waved his last goodbye his face was filled with tears.
There was more at play here than a man simply going to Rome
He was leaving behind a country he loved, his bond, and his home.
He became a beacon of strength for all his brotherly Poles
Guiding them in the path of God and enriching their hungry souls.
Uplifting those who felt abandoned and helping carry their cross
He gave the Polish people a purpose to look beyond their loss.
He instilled in them an iron belief that God would set them free
And in the process of this, he made believers of You and me.
He touched the hearts of many as he befriended all mankind
And opened up new visions for those that had been blind.
We watched him slowly age and as frail as he had become
He never wanted to leave his duties here on earth to go undone.
In the spirit of God, a simple man pushed forward everyday
And made us understand that this was the only way.
With great sadness the world now mourns that he should pass
As they celebrate the gifts he gave and remember him with Mass.
His time on earth is over and the torch has been passed to you
To remember and share his love of life in everything you do.
If that is all you learned from him, I think you’d see him smile
And with a tiny wink you’d know it had all been worthwhile.
Silently with heavy hearts we wipe away the tears we cry
As we whisper to our Polish Pope…
God speed and our last Goodbye!
